MONTHLY FOCUS – AN INTRODUCTION

2 Timothy 2:15 - Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Calling all Ministers; we have a responsibility as commanded and within by the precepts of the Holy Bible, to preach the Word of God. But where in the scriptures does God specify HOW we are to preach?

We are told in Paul’s instructions to Timothy:

• 2 Timothy 4:2, Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

• 1 Timothy 4:13, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

• 2 Timothy 2:16, But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.

And these are just a few instructions, not even touching on God’s expectation of our learned skills of proper theology, homiletics, and exegesis. There is A LOT to learn about preaching the Word of God. But even a recently newborn Christian can teach others based solely on the very testimony of their salvation experience. What does that say about those of us who have been telling our testimony and teaching or preaching for many years? Should we not be on an ever-growing, always learning adventure on how to improve our ways of communicating the gospel and oracles of God? Of course!

On this “Minister’s Place” blog page, I will share with you content I find most helpful in improving my own ways of teaching and preaching. Some of the lessons and commentary I will post here will be addressed to Pastors, but do not shy away. If we learn such higher instruction that equips Pastors, we most assuredly can walk away with a higher quality of education, as well as be constantly aware of what our Pastors endure and experience as well.

I also remind you that nothing replaces the unction of the Holy Spirit, but study of God’s Word PLUS His Power to proclaim it boldly, must go together for our benefit and the ones we are preaching to.
